IN-PERSON
WRITING WORKSHOPS

Why is an In-Person Workshop Valuable?

We can fully appreciate in-person workshops – IF they create an atmosphere for the unexpected to happen.

Why is this exciting? Because it is creative – it is challenging, it causes our brains to whir in excited response, and all kinds of unexpected innovative ideas come to us. For if we are being curious and creative, we are participating in order to bring our own unique questions and concerns and insights – sharing our distinct personalities – and courageously sharing also our personal dreams.

So, whereas in an online workshop there is likely to be too many people to actually engage with others or to fully express yourself as the unique human being that you are, in an in-person workshop, you will have opportunities to share, to question, to engage. Moreover, you will meet others who are also seeking answers, engagement, and opportunities to push boundaries, preparing their mental engines for the dynamic growth they are seeking.  When in-person, there is an amazing opportunity to learn in that group dynamic – learn from one another in countless ways.

Creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye. – Dorothy Parker

You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore. – William Faulkner

Novels are such mysterious and amorphous and tender things. – Arundhati Roy

Creative Non-Fiction:

Writing from the Senses:

Written with poetry and fire, Walden remains one of literature’s greatest road maps to the divine [to be found in nature]. – from the book’s jacket cover

Henry David Thoreau’s Walden and Britt Wray’s Generation Dread

[for ages 15 + years old]

If anyone younger than this would like to take this workshop, please email kate@odysseyindigo.com

Our world is on fire this summer – and it is like an excruciating cry from the wilderness – a warning from our rapidly changing world of our rapidly changing climate. Wray’s book Generation Dread is a timely examination of anxiety for our future, especially anxiety among youth, as generalized climate anxiety has become a phenomenon spreading swiftly across all age groups. This prescient book, published in 2022, in fact analyzes the emotional and psychological impacts of climate change. Wray is a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University and the London School of Hygienc & Tropical Medicine where she has been investigating and researching the human consequences of ecological disruption. A Canadian citizen born and raised in Toronto, she holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen. Reading this book with a group is likely to produce some exceptional writing – perhaps even publishable non-fiction pieces. Both works are easily accessible – not hard to understand – and fascinating reads.

Creative Communications & Leadership Writing Workshop:

Communication, Career, Resilience, & Leadership:

Exploring Your Potential in Preparation for a Challenging Future

In the intersection of these four above words and their coalescing meanings – communication, career, resilience, and leadership, there is a pathway to epiphanies – to a discovery of greater potential within yourself, and within the life you want, or are attempting to build. The exploration of this workshop will expose those potential areas of growth and explore also how to mine them for exponential growth, no matter where you are in your life, in which possible transition. If you have found yourself “stuck” by some event in your life, or by the stresses of life, or if you want and need a vibrant forum in which to explore dreams that should not remain merely dreams, then this is a workshop with a writer/career development professional [CDP]/facilitator equipped to help you change the course of your life. Perhaps you merely want to explore ideas for potential changes – as this emerging technological world is one of dizzying speed. All humans are wondering just where we are headed. In other words, there are so many considerations and choices, we can become bewildered, exhausted, or paralyzed by the virtual storm of possibilities.
